For Connexxion, a major Dutch public transport provider, IGB provided consultancy and supervision during the production and admission of a series of new trains for the so-called "Vallelijn".
In the past years, the Dutch regional train services have been put to tender. In 2006 the province of Gelderland selected Connexxion as the new concessionholder for the service between the stations of Amersfoort and Ede-Wageningen. This service in combination with several bus connections is called the Valleilijn.
One of the reasons that the new concessionholder for the Valleilijn was awarded is the fact that they were able to operate with new trains on a very short notice. This was achieved by contracting a relative small German rolling stock manufacturer that was about to introduce a new rolling stock concept.
During the production of the prototype and the subsequently built trains, IGB is supervising the production-quality and –progress, not only at the production location in Germany, but also at the sub-suppliers during First Article Inspections.
Furthermore IGB was advising on various design aspects in order to ensure that the new trains will meet the requirements of the operator and its customers. Also the progress of the admission procedure was monitored.
This project was executed in cooperation with Rail Materieel Consult.
