IGB has done the complete certification for an "Equipped Galley" on a C27-J military transport aircraft. The galley and equipment had to comply with the environmental requirements according to RTCA DO160D C2 category. This means that the unit has to comply with an operational temperature range of -55°C to +70°C degrees centigrade.
RTCA DO160D
The following required test were performed in cooperation with the Dutch Aero and Space Laboratory (NLR):
- Altitude (35.000 ft with an air pressure of 240 mbar.)
- Temperature (Operational and Variation)
- Humidity
- External contamination (Fluid susceptibility)
- Shock and Vibration tests (see picture), including determining the required frame with FEA calculations
- Salt spray tests
20.0 G Static Testing
Due to the operational temperature range of -55°C to +70°C, the static tests had to be 20.0 G at room temperature. This value was determined with material sample testing at the required operational temperatures.
Here also, IGB has applied FEMA calculations to make sure that the test load remains within the allowable of the structural capability of the unit.
Thanks to this investigation, the static test was performed with no unpleasant surprises.
