After the transfer of the certification procedure for air cargo containers to European authorities, it was decided to re-evaluate the certification process in close cooperation with IGB.
The certification of Cargo containers is no longer a matter for national authorities but is now the responsibility of the European aviation authorities, EASA.
This change was reason for one of our clients to re-evaluate the structural substantiation methods of their cargo containers. In close cooperation with both the manufacturer and EASA, IGB developed an analysis method in order to prove the structural strength with a minimum of testing required. For the analysis, non-linear static finite element calculations were applied. The required static tests were performed according test plans compiled by IGB. Also the test set-up was built according to an IGB design.
After successful completion of the static tests, the ETSO certification for the tested container could be acquired. Subsequent designs can be certified mainly by analysis and a minimum of testing.
