One partner, one standard

One of the leading galley manufacturers in the US was awarded with the contract to design and build all large interior monuments on Airbus's A340-500 (first class lounge, galley's and stowages) with very high standards regarding design and finish as well as overall project management.

One partner for a complete package

Due to the short lead time, and with a total of 15 units to be certified, it was initially planned to divide the certification activities between several subcontractors.

IGB was able to demonstrate that all certification work, including the windmilling* requirements, could be outsourced to one subcontractor to bring the following benefits:

  • One partner, thus one vocal point.
  • One standard for all the reports.
  • IGB was able to deal with a major part of the communication with the regulatory authorities (Airbus). Doing so, more work was taken of the customer’s hands.
  • Due to the magnitude of the project, IGB was able to streamline critical processes and complete the project well within the project milestones.

IGB invested in further improvement of procedures and in standardization (in cooperation with the customer). Together with the application of IGB ModelSource, this resulted in on time delivery of high quality reports and calculations that could be swiftly approved by the authorities.

    * Just as with all new A/C types, the new Airbus A340-500/-600 has to comply with the windmilling requirements in order to prove the endurance of the unit in case of a fan blade-off event. For this purpose, dynamic response calculations have to be performed and fatigue analysis has to be done on critical fixture locations. This work is carried out in close co-operation with the aircraft manufacturer (Airbus).
