Despite the latest set-backs for the A380 first delivery, now scheduled in October 2007, the preparations for the production continue.
After assembly of major components in Toulouse, each A380 will fly to Hamburg for the installation of its interior, the so called ferry flight. During the ferry flight, a removable handrail is installed on the main and upper deck to provide grip and guidance for Airbus personnel.
Together with the customer and in close contact with Airbus, we have helped with the certification and the related design optimization of this 45 meters long handrail.
The scope of work included the windmilling and extra stringent abuse loads requirements. This all metal construction has been certified without testing, due to the application of non-linear static finite element analysis.
