IGB assisted the innovative manufacturer Bucher Leichtbau in their efforts to be the first to comply with the new ETSO with their brand new aluminum trolley for Swiss International Air Lines.
In 2007, EASA* was planning to release a European Technical Standard Order (ETSO) for trolleys, carts and containers. This ETSO is based on the Aerospace Standard (AS) 8056 specification, written by SAE International’s S-9 Cabin Safety Provisions Committee and EUROCAE. This aerospace standard is already applied by the FAA.
The AS 8056 defines the minimum design and performance requirements for carts, containers and associated components intended for installation in galleys and other areas of transport category airplanes. The incorporation of AS 8056 specifications in the new ETSO streamlines the development process for galley carts by enabling manufacturers to work directly with the EASA, making product certification possible without the need for specific airline, operator and/or aircraft type.
With a new lightweight, all aluminum trolley for Swiss International Air Lines, Bucher Leichtbau AG is the first manufacturer to fulfill the new ETSO requirements and to pave the way for this new procedure.
IGB was contracted to deliver the “Turn Key” substantiation for the certification of the new trolley, including project management, all substantiation reports and documents, on-site static testing and submittal of the documentation to EASA. Once the new ETSO will become effective, Bucher Leichtbau will be the first manufacturer to receive the ETSO certificate.
